Skelder Hill Farm

Skelder Hill Farm was such a good find for my last minute stay near the North Yorkshire Coast in October.
Helen was welcoming and helpful in every way. Her breakfasts were amazing! Just the thing to set you up for the day.
It’s a place I shall certainly be recommending to friends .

From the time we arrived we were made to feel welcome. This B&B is perfectly located to visit Whitby and the surrounding area. The breakfast was enough to keep us running on full all day and we took the opportunity to visit some of the local eateries to top up each evening – there is plenty of choice. We have visited Whitby many times in the past and enjoyed all its attractions but took a trip to York and the National Railway Museum. Something for everyone here especially on rainy day. Helen was the perfect host, our conversations were great and we look forward to our return visit to continue unended stories……

We really enjoyed our stay at Skelder Hill Farm – we stayed for a couple of nights, two weeks on the trot!

Everything was lovely, and what a breakfast, we certainly didn’t need any lunch!

Thank you again, we hope to see you again.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at Skelder Hill Farm.  This is a lovely place to stay and Helen couldn’t do enough for us.  We stayed in The Stable and my parents in a room within the main house.  The rooms are very clean and comfortable.  We had a food pack provided on arrival and that was a very nice touch.  The breakfast choice is excellent and very good quality and cooked just to your liking.  Helen recommended The Forge Inn in Aislaby for dinner and it was so good we visited 4 nights out of the 5.  We can highly recommended Skelder Hill Farm.  Thank you Helen for making our stay such a good one.

Thank you Helen for a wonderful memorable stay at your home. We had the time of our life in the lovely Whitby area, visiting so many places and was spoilt for choice! Enjoyed the good humoured banter we had between us, and thank you for the lovely clean room you provided and fantastic breakfast to start each day, with a view that was great as well, looking towards Whitby Abbey. Hope we see you again in the future, I am sure we will and look forward to it.

Just arrived home after 3 nights staying in Cow Byre cottage. On arrival we were met by Helen who showed us around the cottage and told us how everything worked. We received wine, bread ,cheese milk and flowers as a welcome pack which all were greatly received. The cottage was immaculate and well equipped. The location was ideal only 4 miles from centre of Whitby, 20 miles from Scarborough. In the 3 days we visited Robin Hoods bay, Whitby and Scarborough all easily accessible from Skelder hill farm. Thank you.

We spent 1 week in Cow Byre Cottage. We were greeted by Helen., who straight away made us feel like an old friend. We were amazed to be welcomed with tea, sugar, milk, bread wine and cheese, which was a really nice touch. The cottage was beautiful, very clean and tidy. Views from the back garden were fantastic, overlooking Whitby Bay. An ideal location for exploring the moors and picturesque villagers. We will return.  My friends and us stayed for one night. We had a fabulous time staying. The rooms were fabulous, the detail in room was excellent. Proper tin of coffee , tea milk and biscuits etc. Not just two satchets like you get in most b&b’s, there was plenty. The rooms were amazing , and the breakfast was second to none. Food just fab and the lovely fresh fruit and yoghurts and cereal so gorgeous . We cannot wait to go back and stay for longer. Helen and Keith were so friendly and Keith makes a mean cup of tea when you arrive. Keep up the fab b&b xxx

Whilst touring the Yorkshire coast we stayed one night at Skelder Hill Farm for bed and breakfast. On arrival we were shown our very comfortable room and also offered a very welcome cup of tea and biscuits.
My wife was really impressed with the attention to detail and cleanliness in the room nothing was overlooked and there was a really nice communal sitting room for the B&B guests within the farmhouse.
The owners are very friendly and gave us good advice on travel in the surrounding area and where we could eat at night if we were hungry.
The Whitby Regatta was on whilst we were there and we were able to get a spectacular view of the nightime firework display from the garden – which incidentally overlooks the sea.
In the morning we joined the other guests in the conservatory for an excellently cooked full English breakfast, in addition on offer is a selection of breakfast cereals, toast, fruit and to drink tea, coffee,, fruit juice etc to drink.
All in all a great place to spend your holiday break and a great location just outside Whitby on the Yorkshire moors.
Top marks *****

We stayed in Cow Byre cottage for a week. On arrival Helen showed around, made sure we knew how everything worked and that we had all we needed. She had put flowers, milk, cheese, a really lovely loaf, tea and coffee, so there was no need for the usual rush to a shop. The cottage is very well equiped, everything you need to cook a meal in. It was all spotless and lovingly cared for. There was plenty of towels in the lovely big bathroom. It is on a main road, but the only time we noticed traffic was when it must have been ” bike night” in Whitby and a few motor bikes went past, other wise it’s fine. The cottage is a few miles outside Whitby, perfectly placed for the park and ride, or to visit other places.
A lovely cottage we were happy to return ” home” to after our days out in this beautiful part of the country. Thank you Helen, for making us feel so welcome. We liked the croquet on the lawn!!

I stayed here with friends the night before i got married in Whitby last saturday. I have stayed in many b & b’s and can honestly say this the very best i have ever stayed in!!
From the minute i pulled up in the car to the minute i left we were made to feel very welcome indeed. Nothing at all was too much trouble for Helen, she spent time talking to us and making us feel at home.
I was a little nervous on the morning of the wedding and Helen was so so lovely, she helped me with my wedding dress ensuring it didn’t get creased up, she was truly amazing.
The rooms are beautiful, have everything you need and more, and the breakfast was very tasty, the views from the conservatory whilst eating breakfast were fantastic!
I cannot thankyou enough for a wonderful and memorable stay, i will definitley be returning with my family.
I had chance to view the cottages which are also for let here and they really took my breath away, luxury throughout, i cannot wait to try these!
Once again thankyou very much for our fantastic stay, price is a real bargain for what you get, amazing!!

Me and my husband Stephen stayed here for our 25th Wedding Anniversary for 2 nights. we had a lovely warm welcome from Helen and Keith and the accommodation was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and really cosy. Helen was there on hand to answer any questions we had regarding sites to see and the best places to visit. The breakfast the next morning was the best we have had for a long time, we were made to feel at home in Helen’s kitchen. We had the best time ever and would definitely recommend to everyone, it was such a memorable stay and made our anniversary special. Hope to visit again soon.

We stayed at Skelder Hill farm for four nights in May 2016. It is situated on the edge of the moors just three miles from Whitby. So it is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful and dramatic Yorkshire Moors and Heritage coastline.
Our host Helen was fabulous giving us lots to tips on places to visit and see. She had a wealth of knowledge about the area, which helped us get the most out of our days.
The accommodation was superb and such good value for money; I would certainly recommend. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and we had a lounge that joined my room to my mothers. This was great as a communal area and an added bonus.
The breakfasts were delicious. We had a choice of cereals, fruit, yogurt and full English. We tended to eat very well in the morning which set us up for the rest of the day until dinner time in the evening. Portions were generous and tasty.

Helen is a friendly and hospitable host a great ambassador for Yorkshire, making us feel welcome and at home straight away. A superb place to stay.

Skelder hill farm is by far the best bnb we have stayed at. As soon as we walked in the atmosphere was very homely and welcoming.. The farm itself and the views are absolutely stunning. We stayed in the bluebell room and it was perfect! Everything was spotless. All the leaflets telling us what was around to do were extremely helpful. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous! We will definately be returning next year to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. The rates are extremely reasonable and well worth it. We couldnt believe it was only £60 for the night when it is most definatley worth so much more! All in all we can strongly recommend staying at skelder hill farm not a bad word to be said! 🙂

We have recently returned from a relaxing few days spent at this lovely bed & breakfast.
It is well kept and is located just on the outskirts of Whitby.
I’d like to thank Helen for her breakfast and running us into Whitby, she is clearly well liked by the returning guests.
We will definitely be passing on the details to our friends and family and we would love to come back one day soon.

Stayed in the Bluebell Room for three nights and it was just perfect. The room had everything you could want including hair dryer, toiletries, a great goody tin full of all manner of biscuits, teas, coffee, Horlicks etc..and bottled water. There was also a lounge for guests use. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.
The hosts were most helpful and very friendly and kindly took us into Whitby so we could have a drink with our evening meal and also one day walk along the coast and get the bus back to the farm. to save back-tracking. The breakfasts were indeed legendary and filled us up for the day!
A great place to stay and thanks to you both for your excellent hospitality. We will be back.

We have been visiting skelder hill twice per year for the past 11 years we would not want to go anywhere else.
We have always been treated as two of the family on arrival.
The rooms are spotless and the food is out of this world.
Helen and Keith are always helpful and have a good local knowledge.
Have a nice holiday,

We stayed at Skelder Hill Farm in August 2012. Helen and Keith made my husband, 4 year old son and I feel extremely welcome. The breakfast was really good and legendary in the area. Nothing was too much trouble. Helen chatted with us whilst Owen played in the garden with their dog, Jet (who he just fell in love with). Keith was brillaint with Owen too, and let him ‘help’ (or hinder!) with jobs around the farm. If we return to Whitby, we will definatley stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

We’ve just stayed with Helen and Kieth for 3 nights. We were welcomed with a much needed fresh pot of tea and biscuits and shown round our spotless room and guest lounge.
Breakfast was served in the conservatory overlooking the moors, Whitby and the sea (you can also watch the sheep and chickens (who provide the breakfast eggs)). Breakfast was outstanding, you can go healthy (fruit and yoghurt) or ‘full on’ with the full monty.
Helen’s knowledge of Whitby and the surrounding area is extremely comprehensive so you are advised to ask her advice before you venture out.
We had a wonderful stay and will be returning at the next opportunity.
We wish Helen and Kieth all the best for their son’s up and coming wedding.

Just back from 3 very enjoyable days staying B and B at Skelder Hill Farm. It is ideally situated just out of Whitby, with a lovely view over the town and out to the North Sea. Helen met us with “tea and biccies” on our arrival, and pointed out various places of interest. The bedroom, with its en-suite and TV, was spotless and comfortable, and there was a small guest lounge – also with a TV. Breakfast catered for all tastes with fresh fruit, cereals, toast, croissants etc. , but for the trencherman the “full english” was magnificent!! We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay, and nothing was too much trouble for Helen or Keith, and am missing Jet – their German Shepherd – already. Hope Helen has finally got her outfit for her son’s forthcoming wedding and they all have a great day.

We only spent one night at Skelder Hill Farm but know we are will be going back again and hopefully for longer.

As soon as we arrived Helen made us feel like real friends and couldn’t have made us any more welcome if she had tried.

Our room was well set out, had everything we needed and had the comfiest bed I’ve slept in for ages.

After bringing us coffee and biscuits Helen even recommended somewhere for our evening meal which turned out to be one of the best meals we’ve ever had!

The next morning at breakfast we were joined by Helen and Keiths grandchildren and were just made to feel more like friends than guests.

Both Helen and Keith are fantastic hosts and so friendly, helpful and open. We really wish them all the very best with their next venture and can’t wait to stay in their cottages once they’re completed.

Can highly recommend a stay at Skelder Hill Farm to everyone!

We had a 4 night break at Skelder Hill Farm and enjoyed the homely atmosphere, lovely breakfasts and gorgeous views of Whitby from the conservatory. Would have liked our own TV in the bedroom – the TV lounge was okay though very small and would have been really cramped if all guest rooms had been occupied.

Anne Wales – Cawston
Response : As of April 2012 as well as Tv in the guests lounge, all guests bedrooms now have their own television.

As soon as we arrived at Skelder Hill Farm we knew we had chosen the right place, we were greeted by Helen whom even after a few minutes of chatting felt like we had know her for ages, the next thing Helen appeared with a tray full of goodies, hot pot of tea fresh milk and biscuits! The bedroom/shower etc was spotless, lovely bedding and soft towels, there was extra heating and blankets if needed this was our first stay at a farmhouse style B n B and it was so cosy and homely, we could only stay one night but it was enough for us to see that Helen & Keith are two lovely people and nothing would be too much trouble for them. Now then then breakfast! this was the best! breakfast I have had in any B n B or Hotel, there was everything, all freshly cooked and very good quality, on hot plates and served with a smile, I started off with fresh strawberries, toast and tea then on to the full breakfast right from the start Helen made us feel so welcome and I could have chatted all day, if it’s a homely, spotless, cosy B n B your looking for with a breakfast to yearn for! then this is the place….thanks Helen and Keith for a lovely short stay, and would recommend Skelder Hill Farm to anyone…best wishes Sue & Brian

We booked a surprise weekend away for my husband’s 60th birthday and just could not have stayed anywhere better. Helen and Keith made us all very welcome and there were balloons, a bottle of Cava and a birthday card for my husband in our room which was very much appreciated. The rooms were comfortable, spotlessly clean with fresh linen and clean soft towels (which were changed daily) We enjoyed a superb evening meal and our weekend was off to a great start. Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, cereal and full English available and cooked to our liking, all served in a spacious conservatory complete with grape vine and wonderful views. We had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend Skelder Hill Farm B&B to family and friends. We very much hope to visit again. All the best and grateful thanks to Helen and Keith from Anthony, Nadine, Gill and Steve.

My husband booked for a surprise weekend for our anniversary when we arrived we were greeted by Helen a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome right away, she showed us to our room, it was spotlessly clean and had all the basics and more even a hairdryer, the bed was very comfortable and we both had a very good night sleep the sheets and blankets were crisp and clean and there were extra blankets and a heater should we of needed them, we did not the room was cosy and warm all night long. The next morning we woke and had a lovely hot shower before going to the conservatory for breakfast, and what a breakfast, seated at a beautifully laid out table with four types of cereal fresh fruit yoghurt’s and fresh orange juice to choose from, we were then served hot tea and coffee, then toast with a selection of jams and marmalade, then a full English wow. One of the things we were very impressed with is Helen remembered our names and used them at all times, I would recommend this B & B to all and we will be returning with friends next time, Thank you Helen for a lovely weekend, Sue & Shawn Appleton.

When I booked to stay at Skelder Hill Farm I got a warm reception on the telephone and couldn’t wait to get there. We stayed 3 nights for our honeymoon and I have to say it was fabulous! You receive a warm, friendly welcome, the accomodation was brilliant, clean and excellent value for money. The breakfast was outstanding and we didn’t need to eat until teatime.
